• Your family should know that if regular or cell telephones are not working, they need to be patient and try again later or try e-mail.   Many people flood the telephone systems when emergencies happen but e-mail can sometimes get through when calls don’t.

Keep up on the news and any recommendations from your county and state emergency planning teams.   Learn about your community’s warning signals, what they sound like and what you should do when you hear them.   Find out what local radio stations provide such warnings.  Know how to find the emergency broadcasting station on your portable or car radio.  Make sure your radio is strong enough to work inside your shelter location.   Listen to weather reports.
